Packaging | Label Redesign
Melissa’s Produce

I took this opportunity for me to update the look for our entire Latin category, starting with these pickled pepper jars. The previous labels were quite dark so they blended in with the color of the product. I chose a lighter color palette, to stand out against the product, but also to allow for contrast for the logo, as the 3 logo colors are all mid-range tones so a lighter background allows for it to stand out a bit more, instead of competing with a darker color. The font choices, illustrative style and subtle graphic background pattern were utilized to create a modern look that represented the bright and festive culture of Latin cuisine. In addition, these elements could be incorporated into other product formats to create a cohesive look among our Latin category. The black border anchors the elements of the label, reinforcing the front panel on this round jar. It also ties into the illustrated element, which I created. These illustrations were inspired by botanist plant illustrations, but if they were hand-painted shop signage, commonly seen all over Mexico. The overall end result is modern, fresh, and easy to read.

Shown to the right are the flattened labels. As you can see, there is limited space to include the required content, such as nutrition facts panel, ingredient statement, distributor clause and bar code, but I was able to make it work so we had a bit of room to include some playful romance copy.
